A Canadian Rock Icon
Few artists have shaped the sound of Canadian rock as profoundly as Tom Cochrane. Over a remarkable career spanning nearly five decades, Cochrane has earned his place as one of Canada’s most celebrated singer-songwriters.
As the lead singer and principal songwriter for Red Rider, Cochrane helped define Canadian rock in the late 1970s and 1980s. Together they released nine albums and a catalogue of enduring hits including Lunatic Fringe, Human Race, White Hot, Victory Day, Boy Inside the Man, and the chart-topping anthem Big League.
Cochrane later launched an enormously successful solo career with the release of Mad Mad World, featuring the global hit Life Is a Highway. The album sold more than one million copies in Canada alone and over six million worldwide, earning Diamond certification in Canada and a Grammy nomination in the United States.
Over the course of his career, Cochrane has released more than twenty albums, won eight JUNO Awards, and been inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as one of the country’s most influential artists.
A Legacy Beyond the Music
In addition to his musical achievements, Cochrane is widely recognized for his humanitarian work. A longtime supporter of organizations including World Vision, Amnesty International, and War Child, he has dedicated his time and talent to causes around the world.
His contributions have earned numerous honours, including the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award and his appointment as an Officer of the Order of Canada.
