Oculus and the Legacy Series wines are the culmination of 25 years crafting fine wine. Rare and limited, they showcase the finest of everything at Mission Hill Family Estate.
Oculus and the Legacy Series wines reflect the pinnacle of everything we do from viticulture to winemaking. Beginning in the finest of our twenty four estate vineyards throughout the Okanagan Valley, John Simes selects the most suitable clones and rootstocks and utilizes GIS mapping to further determine the most promising blocks for each varietal. Vineyard based weather stations monitor soil and climatic conditions constantly, maximizing quality in the vineyard. The grapes are grown with extensive canopy management including effeuillage (leaf plucking), éclaircissage (crop thinning), and irrigation control. All of this encourages the production of exquisite fruit.
The finest blocks and rows of grapes are then handpicked and hand sorted and minimally handled in the best European fermenters and barrels available. The premium lots of wine are selected, expertly blended, aged in optimal conditions, and tasted often until approved for release.
